The site for Chris Daughtry was much more than just a one-off site for a popular artist. When Sony hired Lullabot to build their next generation of artist websites, they had a grand vision. They had discovered that creating a new site every time an artist released an album was actually detrimental to their traffic. By tossing out the old and replacing it everytime, they lost their user base.

Enter Drupal driven community websites. The Daughtry site is built on a Drupal-core, but has a seperate theme layer. When Daughtry releases a new album, any Drupal developer can create a new theme while maintaining all the content (photos, forums, albums, news, blogs, etc).

Community turns out to be the factor for success in the music industry. Chris Daughtry finished third in the 5th season of American Idol. The fan involvement that made Daughtry a success on American Idol didn't stop after the season ended. Chris and the fans had a very active exchange and the new Daughtry Offical website provided a place for them to collaborate.

The site allows users to upload photos, blog, rate music, watch videos and more about Daughtry. This paradigm replaces the typical eye-candy and music website. To prove it's popularity, within weeks of launching Daughtry Official (a mid-level artist), the site was generating over 4 times the traffic of Sony's most popular artist Justin Timberlake (naturally, his site will soon be on Drupal also).
